About Open FOSS Training

Open FOSS Training is a community-driven project dedicated to making Free and Open Source Software accessible to everyone. Through a growing library of video tutorials, written documentation, and hands-on hardware reviews, we help users build confidence with Linux systems and the broader FOSS ecosystem.

Our training episodes walk through real-world tasks — from navigating the Unity interface on Ubuntu to managing software installations and updates. Each episode is supported by written guides on our wiki, and downloadable copies are available so you can learn at your own pace, on or offline.

Our Mission

We bring together experienced users who share a passion for open-source technology. By pooling knowledge and creating clear, practical training materials, we aim to lower the barrier to entry for Linux and FOSS — whether you are a student, a professional switching toolchains, or simply curious about free software.

The project also highlights hardware that respects user freedom, with reviews of devices that work well with Linux and open-source drivers.

Our training approach begins with the recognition that Free and Open Source Software should not require a technical background to use effectively. Each episode in our growing library is designed to bridge the gap between curiosity and competence, guiding learners through practical tasks such as navigating desktop environments, managing software repositories, and configuring hardware for optimal performance. We pair every video walkthrough with written documentation and downloadable resources, ensuring that different learning styles are accommodated. Whether you are exploring Ubuntu for the first time or revisiting Linux after years away, our content aims to reduce the stumbling blocks that often discourage new users. The result is a supportive pathway from initial installation to confident daily use.
